How does Jesus saves? He reaches out his hand and catches.

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31)

Immediately, upon hearing the cry of despair, the cry when our understanding is useless to us, the cry when all else fails, the cry when our pride disappoints us, Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter. Jesus’ presence was all the assurance that Peter needed to walk on that water. Jesus’ presence was all the courage that Peter needed to walk on that water. Jesus’ presence is exceedingly enough to cast away all anxiety, and guard our hearts and minds with the peace that surpasses all understanding.

“Why did you doubt?” What good was it to doubt? Is there an alternative to Jesus? Is there anything or anyone comparable to Jesus? Is sinking into despair better than the presence of Jesus.

Christ in me, the hope of glory. Amen.
