Before we feared, today we love.

How we once knew God: “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”
(Psalms 103:13)
Before the new covenant, many knew or acknowledged God because of their sacrifices, and not God’s own sacrifice for it had not yet happened.

How Jesus explained God, his Father, to us:  “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:44-45)

How we know God today through the gospel:

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:18-19)

“For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.” (Romans 11:32)
