Motives

“When the people saw the sign that Jesus had performed, they began to say, “Truly this is the prophet who is to come into the world.” Realizing they were about to come and make Him king by force, Jesus withdrew again to a mountain by Himself.” (John 6:14-15)

Even when mankind wanted to make Jesus king, Jesus didn’t want it. Why? Because we had our own agenda. That’s the reason we wanted to make Him king. When someone accepts Jesus for their own agenda, Jesus wants no part of it. You want Jesus so that you can have an unlimited supply of bread that perishes? Jesus wants no part of it. You want to keep on catching unlimited supplies of fish that swims in the water? Jesus wants no part of it. You want to add Jesus to your list of trophies? Jesus wants no part of it. You want to add Jesus to your list of gods? Jesus wants no part of it. You want to impress Jesus with your skills? Jesus wants no part of it. You want to kill for Jesus? Jesus wants no part of it. You want to hurt yourself for Jesus? Jesus wants no part of it.

Unless we share the gospel, what we do is to our own praises. Unless we share how we were wrong and how Jesus set us free, whatever we share is to our own praises.

No one can give to Jesus what is not already His. Everything is His, even his place on the throne of God, from everlasting to everlasting.

Someone’s rejection or acceptance of another as a child of God doesn’t make the person more or less of a child of God by the Spirit through knowing Jesus.
