Whenever we try to fix things ourselves, it is always nothing else other than an artificial intervention. We envision how we believe they should be and then craft a plan to fix them.
Artificial interventions (food, money, time, human efforts) in the church brings the attention to and thus credit those making those interventions rather than Christ himself. Only the gospel brings attention to Christ, attention to what God did through Him for us.
No one will ever be satisfied with artificial interventions because they do not last. But knowing that God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to show us the measure of His love for us, that is no show-off. That’s an act of a loving God. That is no craft of man. That is an act to prove how much God wants to see us forgiven. It is an act to help us rest our mind and heart and thus relax because of His love for us.
After all, Jesus, His Son, tells us just the right thing to do: Do not worry. This means, “relax and rejoice” because of His love for us, not because of anything we have done or anything we could ever think of doing. Jesus, not artificial interventions, but Jesus is the solution to the problems of the church and the world.
