Some of us try to choose good over evil believing such to be a way to maintain or secure our salvation. Our salvation is safe and secured by the blood of Christ, not by our works.
Choosing good over evil, when you have such a choice, when you can tell the difference between one and the other, is for the sake of our conscience.
And when our conscience wants to condemn us, it is good to remember that God is greater than our conscience. He knows more than we could ever know. And he works out everything to our benefit.
The new covenant leaves no room for our conscience to condemn us, but only room to rejoice and live in peace.
The new covenant creates no way for us to fall short again, but the way to live peacefully and joyfully which is by the promises of God in Christ Jesus.
“I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:10-12)
A way to live, not a way to falter. The new covenant by Jesus Christ with God on our behalf.
