You know the great feeling you get when you’ve just experienced a great bargain like a highly valued product or service at a small fraction of the price? Maybe something like great savings on a plane ticket, hotel nightly rates, huge discounts on clothing or groceries?
You know what’s a greater feeling? It’s not spending. It’s actually in having a debt fully paid off.
In Christ, we inherited both an eternal bargain and an immense debt eternally paid off.
The debt above all debts paid off:
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
So what is a bargain beyond all other bargains? A gift. 100% off and tax free with free shipping.
“Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)
Redemption is our highest debt paid off by God in Christ. Eternal life, the Holy Spirit, is the 100% off product and service we got from God in Christ Jesus.
It does feel good either way. This may explain as to why Paul suggested this:
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)
Though we owed our flesh to death due to the covenant with sin that Adam had agreed to, our spirits are made new by God with the knowledge of Him and His Son through His Spirit.
“For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. ” (1 Corinthians 15:21-23)
When you believed the gospel, Christ came into your heart. Then you were made alive by His Presence.
“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. ” (Ephesians 2:4-9)
Rejoice with the highest debt paid off, and the greatest and non-perishable bargain received. Rejoice.
