“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24)
The “god” of the church is not the God of the true gospel. It is the “god” of collective efforts with the motto, “divided we’re weak, together we’re strong”. It is not the god who is everlasting strong. It is the god that is oblivious to the problems of the world and blames the problems on the world itself. It is the god of the wallet.
Nothing is done without money being involved. The god of the world has become the god of the church. This is why committees are set-up to decide, while God himself is entirely ignored. The god of the church is dependent of the mental capacities of the members and not on the mind of Christ, the truth from the Holy Spirit.
The god of the church is a god that everyone has to come back every Sunday, every gathering to learn something new of, as if God, the father of Jesus Christ, has ever changed. The god of the church entirely ignores the new covenant of the gospel. The god of the church is weak. Unless someone spends, it gets no recognition. Unless money is spent, it receives no praises.
The god of the church is a god that the church seeks for approving all of her errors like a child asks others to praise his sandcastle. The god of the church says, “do not believe what the new covenant says; you need to memorize and hold the entire bible before you can know who God is.”
The god of the church says, “it’s not what God has done, but what we can do that matters”.
A pastor of an ever-growing church said recently, “Salvation is free, but discipleship cost everything.” I replied, “You mean, “following Jesus comes with persecution?”. He replied, “I misunderstood what he meant”. Many times he goes on boasting about having led a 5000 member church. Another god. Another Jesus. Another gospel. All from the spirit of error.
The god of the church says, “unless we’re in big numbers, we’re not a church; unless we’re increasing in numbers, we’re dying as a church”.
The god worshipped by the church is a god of theology, a god constantly telling its believers to “come back next time and I will tell you more”. But Jesus said that we would know the truth, and not some of it. He also said that “God must be worshipped in Spirit, the Spirit of Truth.”
The god of the church is formed in the mind of the followers by patching up every false beliefs to increase memberships, and with more membership more money, with more money more material glories, with more materials glories more worldly recognitions. The world knows the church, nor for sharing the gospel, but for her material glories, her material wealth. The world sees itself in the church because the god of the church also collects credit-card payments.
Here is what the God of the gospel of Jesus who died to set us free from the god of the world says:
“I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:10-12)
