The blood of Jesus doesn’t stop us from sinning. But it makes the path for the Holy Spirit to come upon us and give us to renew our heart and renew our spirit. It redeems us from the punishment that our sins deserve: eternal separation from God.
Adam sinned once and that was enough for him to be separated from God.
Jesus died once for all of our sins and that was enough to reconcile the whole world back to God.
Because we’re no longer imprisoned by the fear of punishment, and that our mind is being renewed by the Holy Spirit, we now can choose not to sin. We can choose not to sin not out of fear of punishment, but out of the love and understanding that the Holy Spirit is teaching us day after day. The blood of Jesus is at the very foundation of it. Had we not the Holy Spirit to teach and remind us of our redemption by the blood of Jesus, we would have sunk again into fear of punishment. Fear of punishment weakens. Joy of deliverance strengthens.
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”” (Romans 8:15)
