What is that you fear right now, right at this moment?
Is it the passing away of a loved one? Is it the missed opportunity to graduate school? Is it your spouse leaving you in any shape or form? Is it the termination of your position at your job?
Many woke up this morning pondering if today will be the day for any of such to occur. The truth is that it can happen at any time to anyone living on this planet.
Since I have been a very young child, God has been taking care of me. He’s been taking care of you too.
Before my parents had known any English, God gave them jobs to help sustain our financial needs. Before my parents had any job, God provided ways for them to sustain our daily needs. Before I had a sustainable job, God provided ways for me to be cared for. Before I had graduated or enrolled in school, God cared for me. Before my wife and I had gotten married, God took care of us.
My friends, if you feel threatened by the uncertainty of this world, be certain of this fact: this world guarantees nothing good. Only God and God alone through Christ provide the basics of our needs.
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’” (Acts 17:24-28)
If birds who may not know who God is are cared for daily, then we who are made in his image, are to be certain of his neverending care of us wherever we may be in life. True rest is only found in Christ our Lord, for only in Him are we ever at peace regardless of the unexpected circumstances this life may throw at us. Sometimes, things just don’t make any sense. Yet, if we wait long enough, we will have concluded that everything makes perfect sense. Jesus is living proof that God cares. Blessed indeed is his name for relentlessly being our understanding at all times, including trying times, Amen.
